Georgia Anne Muldrow’s universe of thoughts is populated by the "Great Blacks", title of the third track of her album, "A Thoughtiverse Unmarred". Bob Marley’s rebel music is recalled in “Monoculture” with a reggae riddim underpinning GAM’s lyrics that question our uniformed world and corporate bullshit. Either rapping or singing soul refrains, her heartbeat echoes lyrically her heritage on hip-hop or neo soul loops produced by Chris Keys. The music is enriched with samples of speeches and film cuts setting a scenario for each track. The self-powering energy of her rap alone on the “Fifth Shield” and with Mp Is Free and Declaime on “The Outcome” mirrors brilliantly hip-hop’s essence under protest. Unmarred is the torch of freedom of thoughts carried by many great freedom fighters before her. Objectively meditating on the ravages of today’s consumerism in “Tungsten Balawo” on a smooth soulful tune enriched with moody violins and watery organs. Or, musically condemning unfair treatment of black people in “Child Shot,” a tune that reminds listeners of the latest injustice perpetrated by the police in Ferguson against an innocent black man. Again the latter tune starts and ends with speeches underlining GAM’s point that she expresses in jazzy melodies and poetic verses over heavy brass section samples. GAM signs here a master work of word, power and sound that will please all revolutionary ears and keep her going on her ascension to the highest heights of black music.
